I hate to say it, but based on my frequent travel between two certain airports, they've overestimated the times. Probably for the same reasons Disney says its 45 minutes to wait from a certain point in line when it's really 30...when you get to the front, you think "that went fast!"
Airports always over-estimate the time you're supposed to be there in advance to avoid late passengers trying to get on planes late.
If you can board at a smaller airport and use a connecting flight through a bigger hub you can avoid long security checkpoint delays, and is sometimes even cheaper.
