At 500 grains I was hovering around level 43 to 45... Amazing how many I am able to guess even though I never heard of the words before! I guess my interest in etymology is paying off, in rice.
Envisioning someone sitting there physically counting grains of rice is pretty silly. It'd take over 341 people counting 5 grains a second, 24 hours a day to count one day's worth at the current donation rate!
Of course, they must actually do it by weight, and I'd be awfully surprised if they didn't actually just donate the equivalent in cash.

I bet they pay more to the person who counts the rice than the rice is worth.

It's quicker just to guess and get some wrong than to spend time looking words up.
