1930's: The Zoot Suit
"A killer diller coat with a drape shape, real-pleats and shoulders padded like a lunatic's cell".
The zoot-suit was initially associated with jazz culture and later with petty crime and violence in the zoot-suit riots in the summer of 1943. Those riots were a result of differences in attitude between black and white people towards patriotism and the war; one of the first rationing of material was wool and only Uncle Sam-approved suits could be made. You could be beaten up, shot, or stabbed for wearing one of these suits as it meant that you didn't support the war.
Seems like a dangerous trend to me, however, it's kind of fun to say.
