AOL Search Data AOL released their users search data from March to June 2006, you can use this tool to find what their average user searches for. posted to internet -> internet by TheGovernor, Aug 10th, 2006
The random feature is a lot of fun, as you get a quick rundown of what they have been searching for, sometimes with scary results.
Incidentally I also checked what searches resulted in www.stripcreator.com being accessed, which included "Tobor Comics" "A good Gay test" and "Half boy half donkey". Which is a good round up of that site ;)
AOL users who clicked through to In4mador.com were looking for "Chris Bliss" and curiously "kenny rogers plastic surgery"
I think it's sad they searched for Google, and any other search engine for that matter.
Although this could be a case of what happens to my mom (who uses AOL): she has her keyboard on caps all the time and it ends up searching for the URL rather than actually going to it. I'm not sure why they'd end up searching for it without the .com, though... I mean, if they knew the name of the website, there's a really good chance they knew where it was located.
Almost 9,000 queries for "m"? Yeah, these might not be the most sophisticated Internet users we're talking about. Well, they are on AOL, so it is essentially self-defining.
I found some fellow via the Random list that searched for various things including the following:
tribal tattoos www.myspace.com
singlets
summer wrestling tournaments in new hampshire www.clowngirls.com
juggalettes gone wicked
insane clown posse hatchet men www.insaneclownpussy.com
wwe rpg
paranoid social club last cigarette
your my last ciggarette i swear
juggalo holocaust
gathering of the juggalos
Hmmm... when you search for www.myspace.com, you display your idiocy... when you search for www.my space.com, you show that you are too dumb to breathe.
Unfortunately, more than 1000 people are too dumb to breathe
Further research into 711391 reveals that she's not the only one with extramarital intentions!
Also, the kids aren't going through a good time with all this running around to meet online lovers.
Shows you just how dumb the average AOL user is when #11 is "internet".
This'd be a lot more interesting if I were still working for a targeted marketing company.
Of course, we usually had more up-to-date info, but at the same time, we had to pay for that.
