Closing time?
Hey guys, so this site is pretty inactive these days since I've had zero time to devote to it. I'm thinking about shutting it down or handing it off to someone else (if anyone wants it.) What do you think?
There is (was?) a very cool group of people here who have contributed a lot of great stuff so I don't want to disappoint anyone but I feel my neglect of the site has already taken care of that. If you're still around maybe we can figure something out.

Couldn't you start a twitter account or something? I have a high level of trust in your curating abilities, so it'd be nice to keep using you as a content filter :-)
Back in the day before Facebook, I found interesting links on sites like this and shared the ones I got (mostly through IM'ing or e-mailing them between friends) here.
Now with social media, it seems we're all constrained to share between our own networks. I hate to say it, Brad, but you're probably right...it's been a ghost town here. Just don't close stripcreator!
I really enjoy the community here, but I can't really disagree with calling it a day. I think I'd actually look forward to an old fashioned flame at this point.
*flame war
Quick! I made an error! Someone mock me, for old times sake!
benk: I've wondered about maybe converting the site into something automatically generated from some users' Facebook shares or Google Pluses or something.
choad: Stripcreator's staying!
jBot: Nice error, dummy.
Anyway, I'm not in a huge rush to shut the site down and take it off the internet but I'll probably close new user signups so that I at least don't have to deal with spammers anymore.
This site has got to have some sort of e-historical value. I dunno.
Maybe we could do a retrospective, and frontpage some of the way-older links from very early on. At the very least, the ability to rate the links will help weed out some 404s
Oh man, I would be so sad if in4mador was no more.
And I like that retrospective idea, there's some awesome stuff in the archives.
We're really fish over a barrel here.
On the one hand, the comments are awesome.
On the other hand, some the same functionality could be had with a Delicious stack or a Facebook group.
I dunno. It's been a long time since I've shared anything on here but I'm proud of each of my links.
aw, that's kind of sad. i have good memories of this place.
i already collect cool links and stick them in a blog so if anyone else does the same, maybe we could make this a collaborative thing?
A tumblr could work maybe?
FYI I've turned off new user signups. I don't have any other plans right now.
What do you guys use (if anything) to save/share links?
I'm actually mostly Instapaper and Pinboard these days. With the occasional Youtube favorite and Facebook like here and there.
Man, I hate to say this, but even after 9 years of using In4mador, I've been on reddit for the last two. Lately, I've been getting so sick of reddit. It's just a bunch of the same jokes repeated and repeated.
I kind of had some idealistic vision that in4mador could usurp reddit the way reddit did to digg. It would take a lot of programming skill (that I don't have) and if Brad's losing interest... well, what else is there?
I could certainly do the programming but the difficult part is getting the influx of people. Reddit seemed to benefit hugely by Digg selling out and crashing and burning.
There'd be nothing wrong with running a nice small quality community blog. Something more like Metafilter than say Reddit or Digg.
I'd be interested in that but if it hasn't happened already I don't know how to get it rolling.
A massive grass roots recruitment campaign by all the remaining users.
Twitters, Tumblrs, Facebooks, G+.
Whatever is had, get it to getting.
I usually rely on Facebook for the occasional funny picture or interesting link, but I save the really good, quality sites for here.
Is there maybe a way to have both, but keep them separate? Like a section for a quick image or video link, and another for a larger site worth checking out?
A facebook group for the time being, though, maybe?
What say you, Brad? Feel like making one?
Sure, I can make a facebook group.
Can someone message me on FB and tell me who y'are. I can't create the group until I have people to invite apparently.
I'm: http://www.facebook.com/braad/
If the site has to change, how about something like 1 interesting link per day? That may already be a thing somewhere.
If spammers are a bit of a problem, maybe there could be some crowdsourced way to weed them out. Some system where two clicks on a "this is spam" button from confirmed members (say, months-old accounts) for spam comments, or three for links, would hide that particular comment or link for review (and a number of hidden links disable the user?) by a moderator (which you could appoint a few of).
As for the Facebook page, alright, I'm in. And if that page gets some use, is there a way links from there could be harvested by the machine and put on here?
I am late to the party here.. but it would certainly be a sad day if this site closed down :/ I <3 you guys
So uh... Any progress getting that FB group going?
So, Brad's mind seems to have wandered off somewhere (distracted by an electronic butterfly flying around his electronic face, maybe), so I went ahead and created the group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/501086429905865/
Right now it's just jBot and me in the Facebook equivalent of a dark alley, so hurry up and join before he stabs me with a shard of broken Like.
If we get 2 more, we can play a decent game of hoops, but mom says I have to be home before the street lights come on
I has joined.. It can be fun to play "Guess the in4mador handle" with our RL names all up in our faces
thegreatkinghal was easy to guess, and so am I (and jBot I already knew), but you (I assume Jeff is you, since you just posted and he/you just joined) would have been harder and I still have no idea who Brandon is.
well yeah you and Hal were easy.. however, I have plenty of Cthulhu paraphernalia on my page.. so linking the two wouldn't have been too hard.. Although the thumbnail here seems to be off center
Well, I know I haven't exactly been a regular here, but I've kept up with the website for the most part and joined the group on Facebook as well. It'd be a real shame to see a community like this one just up and disappear.
Joined! Or at least, I sent my request to join.
eh eskimo.. you seem like a regular to me.. in fact, everyone in this thread has been around as long as I can remember.. other than benk.. I have no idea who that is :)
4 months later and we're still rockin, whoo hoo! also, I requested to join the facebook hideout.
